The two acts, The Access to Information Act and The Privacy Act, bestow Canadians the legal right to obtain information in any form that is under the control of any government Canada. These acts were drafted with an idea that the information held by the government must be accessible and the operation of the government must be transparent in order to allow Canadians to participate in the democratic process.
GCMS or short for The Global Case Management System is Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada’s one-stop-shop, integrated and global system used for processing all citizenship, visa, immigration, family reunification, and other applications. When your application is received, it is integrated into GCMS. Each processing officer, including the decision-making immigration officer, who opens and reviews your case leaves notes for further reference. These notes culminate in the decision of your case. Thanks to these two acts Canadians have now access to GCMS notes.
Many applications that are submitted by individuals themselves without any legal aid may have errors, omissions and other issues that may delay the processing of their cases. In a worst-case scenario, such omissions may result in the application rejection. Requesting GCMS notes early on, when you notice a delay in your application, is important since it will provide you with the necessary information that may help in taking necessary measures.
